In the winter of 2018, our board of trustees supported two “Young Innovator Scholarships,” awarded to rising 9th grader Lane Ramsey, and 10th grade transfer Sierra Surin-Bullard.

And how they seized their opportunity! Sierra engaged as a service learning leader, studied and traveled abroad in Europe through our ColLAB program, and led the student body as school president. Lane took on  projects that ranged from glass blowing, to ALS Activism, to cycling, and finally interning at a fintech startup his junior and senior year.

Now, with four year senior Lane ‘22 (center) heading off to Binghamton in the fall after considering acceptances at NYU, Northeastern, and Temple, and Sierra ‘21(far right) finishing up her first year at Wake Forest where she was accepted early, we are pleased to reintroduce the Young Innovator Awards.

SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW
The Young Innovator Scholarships will cover at least* 50% of the tuition costs at The Winchendon School | New York for two students for up to four years.**

Innovation knows no limits - and crosses many different disciplines - from technology to the arts, from serving the community to being a good role model.

Perhaps you have a view toward the next generation of music or dance, or an idea for the next killer app or small business, or a plan to better serve younger kids, or a way to bring positive change to your block, neighborhood or country. Tell us about it. We want to hear from the next generation of innovators - and you could earn a free high school education.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE
Applicants must start in September 2022, reside in one of the five boroughs – and have interesting ideas!  

HOW TO APPLY - 

1. Fill out the mini-application (above) or reach out to our Director of Admissions, Melissa Essman, at messman@winchendon.org You can also call her at 347-491-4440.

2. Start to compile the application package, which includes:

• A  one-page essay, short video, or slide deck that helps us get to know you, your interests, your passions, and how you hope to make the most of your high school education.
• An “unofficial” snapshot of your recent grades. This can include an end-of-year report card scanned and sent (we will need official transcripts, but can get to that later)

We are excited to get to know you! Don’t delay, as applications will be evaluated on a first come, first served basis…and it’s an easy first step. 

And if you’re excited about Winchendon-New York, are eager to join our community, but worried that you might not earn this scholarship, don’t worry, you can still be a winner! Additional need-based financial aid and merit scholarships are available beyond these two awards, so please connect.

* Additional funds beyond 50% may be provided to awardees based upon their family's financial circumstances.
